STP EVERYDAY SAFETY & INDEPENDENCE PROGRAM

Inclusive, Hands-On Safety Training for Diverse Learning Needs

Designed for children, teens and adults with diverse learning, developmental, communication and sensory needs — including autism, ADHD, learning disabilities, developmental disabilities and other support needs.

The STP Everyday Safety & Independence Program provides practical safety education through hands-on activities, visual instruction, repetition, movement, demonstrations and real-life scenarios.

Participants do not need to read independently or communicate verbally to participate. Activities provide multiple ways to learn and demonstrate understanding through pictures, choices, matching, colouring, movement, demonstration, hands-on practice and other forms of communication.

THIS IS NOT A TRADITIONAL CLASSROOM-BASED SAFETY COURSE.

Our programs focus on:

SEE IT • DO IT • PRACTICE IT • CHOOSE IT • USE IT

Classes are intentionally kept small, with a maximum of 12 participants, creating a supportive, low-pressure learning environment.

Parents and support persons are welcome to participate.

THREE AGE-SPECIFIC WORKSHOPS

👧 EVERYDAY SAFETY & INDEPENDENCE — YOUTH

Ages 6–12 | 2.5 Hours

A fun, supportive and highly interactive safety workshop designed for children who benefit from visual, hands-on and activity-based learning.

Participants will explore everyday safety through colouring, matching, sorting, pictures, demonstrations, movement and hands-on activities rather than relying on reading or written work.

Children will learn how to:

  • Recognize common hazards and unsafe situations
  • Identify trusted adults and know when to ask for help
  • Respond safely when someone comes to the door
  • Recognize when they need emergency help and how to call 911
  • Understand basic fire and smoke safety
  • Learn simple first aid and what to do when someone is hurt
  • Make safer choices in the kitchen and around the home
  • Practice what to do when something unexpected happens
  • Build confidence in communicating a need for help

Designed to allow children to participate and demonstrate what they know through pictures, choices, movement, demonstration and hands-on practice.
